Bookins for me
Julia Scott, Los Angeles Daily News
If you are looking for a cheap source for books and DVDs(other than your local library), check out Bookins.com. The site facilitates book and DVD trades among registered users. It's free to join but costs $4.49 to *receive* each item. They take your credit card number when you join. Sending items is free (the site let's you print postage from home). I'm told there is no tax because it is a trade.
Once you join you make a list of the books and DVDs you want, then the site figures out who has those items to trade and sends them to you. Kind of like how a Netflix queue works. Each item is given a point value, with more popular items worth more points. If you have a 10 point item to trade, you can get two 5 point items, etc. Because items are assigned points you can trade books for DVDs. You can keep the books or DVDs you get or trade them. Read more about how it works.
A reader who uses the site says it is "great for shut-ins as well as others. The site is designed in a really great way, easy to use and print the postage from your computer and printer...I started last June and have sent out 50 books and have received 48 books with 2 in transit. I have 150+ books on my trade list."
Thanks, Luetta!
